Version 1.2: You can use digital hextant mode.

What is ezClinometer?

The ezClinometer is geological tool for measuring strike-dip. Only you have to do is putting device on the surface of layer. You can see the strike and the dip in directly.

How to use?

The strike and the dip of device plane are displayed on the left top corner in realtime. You can hold the values with clicking MENU, and can select following 3 methods.

Strike

Traditional method. Before click this, you have to set the device on horizontal plane and contact long edge of the device to the surface of layer. You can get the strike.

Dip

Traditional method. Before click this, you have to set the device on perpendicular plane and contact long edge of the device to the surface of layer . You can get the dip.

Strike Dip

Improved method. Before click this, you have to put the device on the surface of layer . You can get the strike and the dip in direct.

How Accuracy?

Depend on the device. But overtop the default pre-installed compass. Because this app includes calibration parameters that cancel device magnetic fields. So on the horizontal plane, the accuracy of direction is about ±1 degree. But in this version, it does not includes other calibration parameters such as accelerations, thus the accuracy on dipped plane is not so high, maybe about ±2 or 3 degrees.

Digital Sextant

You can see azimuth angle, elevation angle, tilt angle of Camera direction, and the relative angle from previous locked Camera direction. Long click screen for locking the direction.

Future Projects

This application will includes the following functions in the future upgrade.

equatorial coordinate system

You will be able to see the sextant display by Declination and Right ascension system.

Other calibrations

Not sure, but it is possible to improve the accuracy, maybe.

Database

Every measured points will saved to SQLite. You will be able to export any data points to ASCII file.

Map View

You will be able to see the distribution of strike-dip on the google Map.

Schmit Projection

Viewer of strike and dip on 2D plane. You will be able to see the trend of selected strike-dip.
